About This Role

Full Stack Developer Intern — Open Source Engineering Internship

Project You Will Contribute To

During this internship, contributors will work on Snap-form, an open-source AI-powered form builder developed by OpenLabs.

Repository: https://github.com/openlabsops/snap-form.git

Rather than working on isolated practice projects, interns will contribute directly to a real-world codebase used by the community. This provides hands-on exposure to modern engineering workflows, open-source collaboration, code reviews, issue tracking, and scalable application architecture.

Internship Overview

The Full Stack Developer Internship is a 2-month remote internship centered around contributing to open-source software under the OpenLabs organization. The program is designed for developers who want to move beyond tutorials and gain practical experience working on production-grade applications.

Instead of assigning isolated tasks, interns collaborate on real repositories, participate in code reviews, and learn how engineering teams manage software at scale. The internship focuses on learning, architecture understanding, and professional development rather than feature output alone.

This program is particularly valuable for developers interested in system design, scalable software architecture, DevOps practices, and open-source development.

What You Will Learn

During the internship, contributors will gain practical exposure to modern engineering concepts and technologies, including:

  • Next.js application development
  • Client-Side Rendering (CSR) and Server-Side Rendering (SSR)
  • TypeScript and modern React patterns
  • Monorepo architecture using Turborepo
  • Docker and containerized development workflows
  • CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
  • Linux server management and application deployment
  • System design fundamentals
  • API architecture and backend scalability
  • Open-source collaboration and contribution workflows

The goal is to help contributors understand how modern software systems are designed, deployed, and maintained in real-world environments.

Mentorship and Engineering Support

Interns will work closely with experienced Software Development Engineers who provide guidance on architecture, scalability, deployment strategies, and engineering best practices.

Through code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical feedback sessions, contributors will learn how experienced engineers approach problem-solving and system design. The focus is not just on writing code but on understanding the reasoning behind technical decisions.

What You Will Experience

Throughout the internship, contributors will participate in professional engineering workflows and learn how modern teams collaborate on large codebases.

You will learn how to:

  • Read and navigate large repositories
  • Create meaningful pull requests
  • Participate in code reviews
  • Debug and troubleshoot applications
  • Deploy applications to Linux servers
  • Work with Docker-based environments
  • Understand scalable system architecture
  • Collaborate effectively within open-source projects

By the end of the program, contributors should feel significantly more comfortable working within production-level engineering environments.

Learning Philosophy

This internship is intentionally designed as a learning-first program.

The objective is to create an environment where developers can learn through contribution, collaboration, and mentorship. Participants are encouraged to ask questions, explore unfamiliar concepts, and gradually develop stronger engineering instincts.

Rather than focusing on deadlines and delivery pressure, the program prioritizes growth, knowledge sharing, and long-term technical development.

Internship Model

This is an unpaid internship focused on mentorship, learning, and open-source collaboration.

There is no fixed stipend or salary associated with the role. Instead, participants receive hands-on experience, engineering mentorship, access to real-world projects, and the opportunity to build a public portfolio of contributions.

The primary value of this internship comes from the experience gained, the knowledge acquired, and the proof of work produced throughout the program.

Proof of Work and Certification

At the end of the internship, contributors will have verifiable proof of their work through:

  • Merged pull requests in organization repositories
  • Public GitHub contribution history
  • Documented contributions to Snap-form
  • Open-source collaboration experience
  • Certificate of Internship Completion (based on participation and contribution)

All contributions remain publicly visible, allowing participants to showcase their work to future employers, collaborators, and communities.

Eligibility

This internship is suitable for developers who already possess basic programming knowledge and want to deepen their understanding of professional software engineering practices.

Applicants should be comfortable with:

  • JavaScript or TypeScript fundamentals
  • Basic React or Next.js concepts
  • Git and GitHub workflows
  • Command-line and terminal usage
  • Learning independently and collaborating with others

A willingness to learn is more important than extensive prior experience.

Work Model

  • Duration: 2 Months
  • Mode: Remote
  • Schedule: Flexible
  • Type: Learning-focused Open Source Internship
  • Compensation: Unpaid

Why Join This Internship

This internship provides a unique opportunity to contribute to a real open-source application while learning directly from experienced engineers.

Participants gain exposure to modern development practices, scalable architecture, deployment workflows, system design principles, and collaborative software development. Most importantly, contributors leave with tangible proof of work and a stronger foundation for future engineering roles.
